Last Saturday Christ the King Presbyterian Church held a sports day or campeonato. Peruvians love sports--volleyball and soccer (futbol), to be specific--and there are few better ways to get a group together than to host a tournament.
Each missional cell group put together teams for both sports, and one of the sisters of the church cooked up a delicious lunch of chicken and rice for the whole crowd. There were games for the little ones, and everyone had a great time visiting. During the week, most people at Christ the King spend time with their fellow cell group members, so an opportunity to spend a day with the entire congregation is always a treat.
Hermana Jami Baker led everyone in warm-up exercises before hitting the court. There was some grumbling about the push-ups.
Hermana Evi Briones winds up for a great serve. Evi's husband is Pastor Oscar Briones, our university minister.
It was great to see families out together.
There was plenty for the little ones to do, too.
Here the Santa Maria cell group takes on the El Golf cell group for a friendly game of voley.
