Our Mission

Who We Are

Peru Mission is a strategic facilitator of urban church planting and Christian community development in Peru.  We plant missional churches, raise up Christian leaders and develop transformational institutions. These vibrant, reformed churches are actively involved in bringing God’s justice, mercy, and peace to the world around them.

Our Story

In 1999, Wes Baker, Brad Ball, Bill Bradford, and Alonzo Ramírez began the work of planting churches  in the Andean city of Cajamarca in northern Peru. In 2001, Baker and Ball relocated to the coastal city of Trujillo as a strategic move toward a more central location in the region, followed in 2006 by Bradford. Since then, the Peru Mission team has grown to include several more missionaries and missionary families, as well as many Peruvian ministry leaders and team members. Several more churches have been planted, others have partnered with the mission, and many ministries have sprung up, including mercy ministries, seminary, and university ministry.

Our Creeds

We are committed to the Historic Christian faith as expressed in the great creeds of the ancient church: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the  Athanasian Creed.  We also heartily concur with the creeds of the Reformation, most especially the Scots' Confession and Westminster Confession of Faith.

Where We Work

Trujillo

Trujillo is a city on the northern Peruvian coast of roughly one million inhabitants. Located in the dry, coastal desert, Trujillo was one of the first cities established by the Spanish in Peru, and is considered by many to be the second-most important city in the country. Boasting eleven colleges and universities, and a deep-water port, Trujillo is the educational and economic capital of northern Peru.

The historic center (or downtown) of Trujillo is not only the commercial, artistic, and governmental heart of the city, it is also where our offices are located, as well as where the Cristo Rey (Christ the King) church plant meets for worship each Sunday. It is an ideal place to reach out to the city’s artists, political leaders, college students, and professionals.

La Esperanza

Translated as “Hope”, La Esperanza, is a huge district stretching for miles outside of the city of Trujillo. The district owes its incredible growth to the thousands of immigrants from the interior of the country who come to Trujillo seeking work. Although things are looking up for Peru’s economy, many Peruvians still struggle to survive, and there are many people in La Esperanza who lack the very thing for which the district is named.

Missionaries are bringing true esperanza to this district, however, in the person of Jesus Christ, through the faithful preaching of His gospel. Peru Mission works with three established congregations in the district, as well as mercy ministries in medical care and economic development.

Cajamarca

Located in the northern Andean mountains, Cajamarca is a very different place from Trujillo. The city of Cajamarca proper is home to roughly 300,000 people, and is surrounded by a verdant valley known for its dairy production, as well as for the precious-metal mines it supports. Our work and the work of the Los Rosales Presbyterian Church (with whom we partner) extends beyond the historic downtown area to include churches in the villages and countryside area around the city.
