Last Saturday college students from SUSA (our university ministry) gathered at our Mission House for a Peruvian barbecue. The weather was perfect and we had a good turnout.
There were many new faces and we made several hopeful connections. It was a very relaxed environment, and the Lord opened up many opportunities for edifying conversations. Many of the university students have unanswered questions that they bring to events like this. The standard ones were well represented: How could a good God allow suffering and injustice? How could Jesus' death 2000 years ago affect me? Why would you choose to leave the United States to work here? We praise the Lord for these questions because they afford us great opportunities to share the Gospel.
This is, of course, the church planting blog and not a SUSA blog. But we are encouraged by the way the university ministry is bringing a growing trickle of new faces to Cristo Rey on Sunday mornings. Some of the visitors from Saturday attended Cristo Rey for the first time on Sunday. We rejoice that these young people are hearing the Gospel and are eager to know more. With twelve universities in Trujillo alone, we have a multitude of opportunities to reach out to students with the Good News. Please be praying for SUSA - this ministry plays a crucial role in establishing Gospel-centered churches in Northern Peru.
