CHURCH PLANTING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Arevalo's Youth Ministry Growing

After Ricardo Hernández arrived in Trujillo in order to pastor the church in Arévalo, there has been a renewed sense of zeal in the church to reach out to the surrounding community.  Because of this new enthusiasm, the Arévalo youth group has become a vibrant testimony to the work that God is doing in this neighborhood.  Each week, Pablo Quiroz, the youth pastor, leads a group of about 30 young people in a time of singing, games, skits and studying the Bible.  Most of these teenagers are not from Christian families and it is very exciting to see them come to the church each week and hear the gospel preached.

In addition to the youth group, last Saturday night, Arévalo launched their first meeting of college aged students.  There were about 20 students in attendance, many of whom are not regular church attenders.  Please pray for both of these ministries, that God would greatly use them to advance His kingdom, bring many to know Him, and raise up young leaders for the churches.

SHORT TERM TEAMS
IPC Savannah Blesses the Community

“I did not want to come on this trip, but am so glad I did!” This is a familiar statement made by team members who have stepped out of their comfort zone to come and serve with us in Peru. Going on a mission trip may be something you think is not for you. Maybe you think you cannot be helpful or do not speak the language. The Lord, however, uses all of us to accomplish His kingdom plan. Peru Mission invites you to join us transforming lives in Trujillo or Cajamarca.

IPC Savannah recently visited us and we are so thankful for their service. They held two medical campaigns out in a lower-income neighborhood and a nearby town for the first part of the week. The latter part of the week was filled with projects at the medical clinic and the physician was able to attend patients there. We are so grateful for their partnership with us!

MEDICAL MINISTRY
Milagritos Cancer Free!

Milagritos, a 14-year old clinic patient, has been receiving medical attention in the Wichanzao clinic since April of this year.  She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and battled the disease for several months. Some of you contributed to the Medical Relief Fund which helped pay for the surgery that removed the 8lb, 12 inch tumor from her ovary.  Several weeks ago, we received the wonderful news that as of her last check up, Milagritos is cancer free!  Please continue to lift up Milagritos and her family, all of whom are confessing believers, as they travel to Trujillo (they live in the mountains) once a month for blood tests and scans.

In the month of September, the clinic reached another milestone, as patient #6000 passed through the doors for medical attention.  While it was a small thing, the clinic celebrated God’s faithfulness over the last several years.  However, as it continues to grow, the clinic finds itself in urgent need for more funding.  Would you consider supporting the Wichanzao Medical Clinic on a regular basis?  Without your support, we are unable to serve patients like Milagritos.  We are so grateful for your help as we seek to share the love of Christ through Medical ministry in Wichanzao.

UNIVERSITY MINISTRY

New Life in the University Ministry

One of the brightest spots around the Mission over the past several months has been our work with university students in Trujillo.  This ministry, Sociedad Universitaria San Agustín (SUSA), seemed to be in a holding pattern for much of 2008 and 2009.  Even after we re-started SUSA large group meetings early this year in our new Mission facility, participation was taking off slowly.  However, by May, the Lord began to draw students from the English classes and attendance began to increase.  Now we regularly have a group of 40 or so students who come to the meetings every Friday evening.

It has been exciting to watch our San Agustín Language Institute (SALI) English students become interested and involved with the university ministry.  In fact, the group at SUSA is now mainly composed of new faces who have had very little exposure to the gospel.  We are eager to see the Lord use His word to change these students’ lives.

Just like in the  Arévalo youth groups, the ultimate goal for the university ministry is to see these young adults become leaders in their fields and cities.  Please pray that God would continue to bless SUSA, and that these students would go on to serve and glorify the Lord in great ways in Peru.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Parish Woodshop Prepares Gift Shop

The Parish Woodshop recently sent a shipment of gift shop items to the United States.  At the end of the month, or possibly before, the website (www.parishfurniture.com) will be open for sales!  We all are very excited about this new opportunity and are hopeful that these gift shop items will be a more economical supplement to the high end furniture that Parish previously concentrated on.  Some of the pieces that will be available for sale include: picture frames of various sizes, bowls, and candle holders.  Stay tuned for more information on Parish’s new venture and don’t forget to check the items out for yourself at www.parishfurniture.com!
