Vassar Dental Team

For the second year in a row, Jason Vassar, has led a team of dental students to Peru. Jason first began his relationship with Peru Mission as a Fellow. After living in Peru and teaching English for several months, his heart was captured and he has maintained this relationship while pursuing his dental education. We are so thankful to the Lord for the servant's heart He has given Jason. Below is a photo of Jason explaining to a patient the procedure he is about to do.

This year, his team consisted of several dental students: James Henson, Bridget O'brien, Karla Haik, Bryant Trotter, Patrick Shipp, Drew Colson, and Ray Santa Cruz (not pictured), as well as a dentist from Tupelo, MS (Dr. Harry Rayburn (fourth from left below).

We visited several communities outside of Trujillo, in the Esperanza district and provided free dental care to hundreds of patients. One day we ventured to a new location and a first in all of my short-term teams--we set up a clinic in the Wichanzao Market. This is where the community shops for its produce, meat, and household items. So right next to the meat market, we had a dental clinic. And it turned out to be a huge success. Below is a photo of some patients walking up to our clinic in Palmeras.

Thanks to Jason and his team for all of your hard work. We hope to see you again next year!
