Nuevo Chimbote

A New Church for Nuevo Chimbote.

Gonzalo is a new church planter with Peru Mission. He and wife Sharol are preparing to take a big step of faith in moving to the city of Chimbote to plant a new church.

A very promising core group is in place. Gonzalo and Sharol are ready to move. They need: (1) a prayer team, (2) $28K in startup funds, and (3) $3,200/month in personal support and ministry expenses.

Chimbote is a city of roughly half a million people, two hours south of Trujillo. It is a coastal city known for commercial fishing and a population of young, energetic, and enterprising people. As a young city however (both demographically and historically), there are remarkably few gospel-preaching, historically-rooted churches (even the Roman Church has a surprisingly understated presence). We are praying with Gonzalo and Sharol that God will change that!

Together with leaders from Christo Rey, Gonzalo has been visiting Chimbote at least once per month over the past year, organizing a core group, getting to know the city, and preparing the ground for a possible new plant. After hearing the reports and receiving a strong recommendation from the elders at Cristo Rey, Trujillo Presbytery approved a plan in December 2022 to open a new mission in Chimbote.

Gonzalo and Sharol hope to move to Chimbote early in 2023. After a couple of months of publicity, organizational meetings, and training the launch group, their hope is to hold an inaugural worship service around mid-year. In order to accomplish this they need help from many friends and churches. Specifically they are asking for the following help:

  • Individuals who will commit to pray for this new mission daily and churches who will commit to pray at least monthly in their Lord’s Day Services

  • Start-up expenses of $28K (website, seating and furniture, music and multimedia equipment, publicity, etc)

  • Church and individual commitments for ongoing support of $3,200/month to cover personal support and housing, meeting space and office rent, utilities, and miscellaneous ministry expenses.

With this support committed, Gonzalo and Sharol could move to Chimbote as early as March 1. Would you commit to pray for them and the mission? Would you consider giving financially and even becoming a regular partner?
